You can help!

Foster parents are our most important asset and the bedrock of what we do.

How does fostering work?

Once approved to foster, you’ll keep an eye out on our volunteer Facebook page for animals that need help. You can “raise your hand” for an animal that you’d like to foster!

The pet will stay in your home while we bring him up to date on vaccinations, get him spayed or neutered, and take care of any dental or medical issues (costs covered by UAAF). You'll help him adjust and pay attention to his personality to see what he needs in a forever home.

Once the pet is ready, he’ll attend 2 adoption events a month, and be posted online to national pet search sites. We’ll handle screening applicants and doing home checks for potential adopters. We will use the information you give us to find him an amazing forever home!

UAAF does not have a shelter facility and relies entirely on volunteer foster homes. Every new foster home means we can pull a pet out of a shelter and get them safely settled while they wait for their forever home. Watching a displaced animal blossom in your care is an extremely rewarding experience.

We have a large and involved foster parent community who are happy to share information and stories about fostering. While in your care, all of your animal’s medical needs will be covered by UAAF's network of veterinarians. UAAF will never ask you to foster any animals you don't have time or space for, and we make every effort to distribute donations of food and other items to our foster network.

By fostering, you can be an important step on an animal's journey to their forever home.

When Opal's (left) foster met this #1 pug lover, she knew she had found just the place for her.

Because they lived in a foster home, we were able to determine that Harvest and Hazel needed to go to their forever home together, and find them the perfect family!

Lovely the poodle spent her first 8 years in a backyard, so living inside was all new to her! A foster family helped her to learn the ropes so that when the right family came along, she was ready.

Other Ways to Help

Volunteer!

We are happy to help you help in any way you can — whether it be spending an afternoon helping our pets find their perfect match, transporting pets to and from vet appointments, data entry or answering emails. Let us know how you would like to help and we can find a way to work together!

Donate!

We accept donations of every kind. Monetary donations are accepted through our website, and we are also always thrilled to receive food, toys, blankets, etc. to keep our friends happy as they wait for their forever homes. And don’t forget to check out Ruff House, our yearly fundraising gala.
